Must We Choose?
Martin Heidegger, Martin Buber, and Emmanuel Levinas give competing accounts of our relations with others, emphasizing authenticity, mutuality, and holiness. We should resist the temptation to take sides in a battle between different approaches to the complex nature of our social being, but should recognize all of these as aspects of a good life.
